What About Insurance?

General Warranty Information - PC’s

Each laptop we sell includes a warranty (2007 - 3-4 years, previous years vary). This covers parts and labor on all defects in manufacture and workmanship. If the unit fails on its own, Dell or IBM cover the machine wherever it is (at UMF or otherwise). The EXCEL Support Center repairs and maintains all PC warranty issues.

Damage Insurance

Dell’s Complete Care (2001-2005 and 2007-2009), IBM’s ThinkPad Protection (2005-2006) and CBE Damage Protection with Apple Macbooks (2009) are accidental damage insurance plans. If the unit is accidentally damaged (e.g. drop, chop, spill, dunk, vroom, squash, crack, krinkle, bend, oops), then it is repaired or replaced at no charge (covers parts and labor).

AppleCare Protection Plan

AppleCare Protection Plan extendeds the complimentary one year warranty already included with MacBooks sold prior to summer 2009. Two years are added for a total of three years. The EXCEL Support Center diagnoses and repairs all software problems and facilitates repair of hardware malfunctions for your convenience. AppleCare Protection must be activated on your system after you receive your product in order to receive the full benefit of the service. This is not damage insurance.

Batteries and the One-Year Warranty

All EXCEL laptops come with a one-year battery warranty (note: not the same warranty as the rest of the machine). Batteries are a consumable item and will eventually stop holding a charge - some more than others.

A Note About Insurance

A warranty covers parts and labor on all defects in manufacture and workmanship. If the unit fails on its own during the warrany period, the repair of the machine is covered by the warranty. Dell’s CompleteCare accident insurance covers parts and labor when the machine is accidentally damaged–the most common hazard. We are pleased to offer a similar coverage plan for Apple laptops this year. In many cases theft insurance can be an inexpensive rider to a student’s or parent’s homeowner’s or renter’s policy. Check with your insurance agent. Additional insurance can be purchased from companies like Safeware, www.safeware.com, for $55 a year and up.
